Jordan's King Abdullah II on Thursday affirmed, during a meeting with the Israeli Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz in Aqaba, the importance of continuing and ensuring the success of peace process after the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza strip, scheduled to start later this month.
The monarch said that the implementation of the roadmap, which provides for the Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank and Gaza strip, is the only way to achieve peace that guarantees the rights of all parties, and establishes security and peace in the region. "The Israeli withdrawal from Gaza should be a successful beginning and a prelude for an Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank and the establishment of a viable Palestinian state," the King added, according to Petra.
King Abdullah held talks Wednesday with the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, focusing on measures taken by the Palestinians to spread its control over the Gaza Strip following the Israeli pullout.
The meeting was held in Aqaba as the Israeli National Security Council Counter-Terrorism issued a statement, warning of imminent attacks in Jordan. "An NSC Counter-Terrorism HQ travel warning regarding Jordan has been in place for some time. In the wake of concrete information, terrorist threats in Jordan have increased, including in regard to Israeli targets, tourists and tourist sites. In light of these concrete threats, the NSC Counter-Terrorism HQ recommends that Israeli citizens refrain from traveling to Jordan except as transit passengers on Royal Jordanian Airlines via Queen Alia International Airport," the statement said.
