The Islamic Action Front in Jordan rejected the government's decision to add Saturday to the weekend on grounds that the country should not ''imitate'' the Jewish Sabbath, according to the Jordan Times.

''We based our [religious edict] on Koranic verses and the Prophet Mohammad's [sayings] that bar Muslims form imitating the Jews in their lifestyle,'' Sheikh Ibrahim Zaid Keilani said, head of the 17-member Sharia Ullema Committee, which unanimously supported the religious edict, or fatwa. The fatwa is not binding for the Islamic Action Front.
