A Jordanian businessman has promised a prize of one million dinars for anyone who kills Israel Shas party spiritual leader, Ovadia Yosef for anti-Arab statements.
In a letter he sent to local press, Tawfiq Azab said he would “award a million dinars to any one who kills this extremist rabbi, leader of the extremist Israeli Shas movement.
Azab, who belongs to the city of Salt, said he declared the prize after Yosef’s remarks which were very offensive to the Arabs, describing the rabbi as a “cursed Satan.”
There have been other angry reactions among the Arabs.
A Syrian government newspaper on Wednesday slammed the "Nazi values" Yosef who had called for the annihilation of Arabs, reported AFP.
"This rabbi described the Arabs with words expressing Nazi and racist values, and feelings of blind hatred," said ath-Thawra in an editorial.
"Those statements reflect the policy of (Israeli Prime Minister Ariel) Sharon who was elected to repress the (Palestinian) uprising by military force," the daily added.
The newspaper called on Arabs to "adopt a firm and decisive stance, mobilizing their capacity in a single front in order to force Israel to change its policy."
In a sermon ahead of the Jewish Passover holiday, Yosef said it "is forbidden to be merciful to them (the Arabs), you must give them missiles, with relish -- annihilate them. Evil ones, damnable ones."
