King Abdullah II on Friday stressed that Jordan is already deeply engaged in  the process of reform, pointing that "our objective is a future that will meet the aspirations of our people." ''In the economy, we have spurred growth and effective development. In the political sphere, we are embedding the values of good governance, human rights and the rule of law,'' King Abdullah noted in the opening session of the World Economic Forum on Friday at King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center on the shores of the Dead Sea.

According to Petra, the monarch pointed that this forum must face the realities of peace and conflict. Regional instability remains a major barrier to sustainable development and prosperity. "Failing to solve this issue is simply not an action,'' the King said.

This year's theme, "Seizing the Moment", will focus efforts to capitalize upon the current climate of change and opportunity, organizers said. Some 1300 political, economic, academic and media figures are taking part in this event along with representatives from civil society institutions. A high-level Israeli delegation is also participating in the conference. The delegation, considered the biggest among all participating foreign states, includes five Israeli ministers, several top officials, and many businessmen.
