Chinese vice-president Hu Jintao and Jordan's Prime Minister Ali Abu Ragheb signed Saturday a trade agreement in Amman whereby China donated 10 million yuans (over $1,250,000) to Jordan, reported the Jordan Times newspaper.

The grant was described by both sides as an evidence of "strong and growing" economic and trade relations between the two countries, said the paper.

Both officials stressed the importance of expanding investment prospects in Jordan, and hailed the accelerating trade volume between Beijing and Amman.

"We have arrived to a unified vision around boosting the cooperation between the two countries in the new century," Jintao told a press conference.

Jintao arrived Saturday on a two-day visit as part of a regional tour that has taken him already to Iran and Syria.

From Amman, he will head for Cyprus and Uganda, said AFP.

Abu Ragheb said that the talks dealt with economic, political, social and military issues.

The Middle East peace process and the Iraqi embargo were also dealt with during the talks, said the agency.

"We denounce the use of violence against the Palestinian people," Jintao was quoted as saying.

"We strongly advocate the Arab countries' just demands for the return of all the occupied territories, and the Palestinian nation's just cause to obtain their legitimate rights."

Both parties said UN Resolutions 242 and 338 must be implemented and efforts should be paid to support the right of return in Resolution 194, said AFP -- Albawaba.com
