Jordan's King Abdullah II will not meet and greet his subjects for the annual Muslim feast of Fitr this year in light of the Palestinian uprising, the royal palace announced Sunday.

"Festivities will be limited this year to prayer ... in solidarity with the families of the Intifada’s victims and wounded (and) the aggressions the Palestinian people have suffered," the palace said in a statement carried by the official news agency Petra.

Jordan's king traditionally greets all Jordanians who wish to see him for Fitr, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
