Authorities on Wednesday raided the headquarters of the old Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in Abdali- centre of Amman-, ordered staff there to evacuate the offices and sealed the place.

A government source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Jordan Times that the decision came because the old MB group is unlicensed and they are "not showing any intent to rectify their situation".

He explained that any activity they practice is considered illegal as they are not licensed, and the new Muslim Brotherhood Society, whose leaders defected the mother group and registered a new entity, filed a complaint against the old group on grounds that the new group is the legitimate Brotherhood in the country.

Muath Khawaldeh, the old MB's spokesperson said the move by authorities is "shocking".

"Security forces raided our headquarters and asked us to evacuate the place," Khawaldeh told The Jordan Times without giving further details.
