Jordan’s Education Ministry plans to hire around 5,000 teachers this summer to accommodate recent curriculum changes, the Jordan Times reported Thursday.
Mahmoud Massad, the ministry's general director for education and educational activities, was quoted by the daily as saying that “since the ministry reshuffled the Tawjihi regulations to make several optional courses mandatory as of the coming scholastic year, more new teachers were needed.”
As of the coming year, he said, the ministry will start giving computer literacy lessons to Tawjihi students and seventh graders.
Massad explained that the ministry's need for teachers exceeded 5,000, and that the decision to open 5,000 posts was based on the ministry's financial allocations as well as its recent hiring plan, the paper added.
The ministry, according to the daily, is facing difficulty in hiring new teachers, due to the fact that English graduates, especially male graduates, are attracted to other jobs in the market – Albawaba.com
