Jill Stein launches 2024 presidential race, seeking Green Party nomination.

Jill Stein, a two-time Green Party presidential nominee, has officially launched her bid for the White House in 2024, seeking the party's nomination.

In a video posted on social media, Stein declared her candidacy, emphasizing her belief that the political system is broken and asserting that the major parties are controlled by Wall Street interests.

“The political system is broken. The two Wall Street parties are bought and paid for,” Stein stated in her campaign announcement.

She criticized both major parties, stating, “The Democrats have betrayed their promises for working people, youth and the climate again and again, while Republicans don’t even make such promises in the first place.”

Stein, who previously ran as the Green Party nominee in 2012 and 2016, faced criticism from Democrats in 2016 for allegedly drawing votes away from their nominee, Hillary Clinton, in key swing states. Despite this, Stein has consistently rejected the "spoiler" label, pointing out that her vote total in crucial states like Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania exceeded Trump’s narrow victory margins.

The announcement of Stein's 2024 candidacy comes at a time of uncertainty for President Joe Biden's reelection campaign. Recent polls show former President Donald Trump narrowly leading Biden in a hypothetical rematch. Independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West also garnered significant support in the same poll.

While support for third-party candidates in polls does not always translate to electoral success, Stein's candidacy is expected to draw attention and may impact the votes for other independent candidates. Stein, familiar with accusations of being a "spoiler" and unfounded claims of aiding Russian interference in the 2016 election, remains a controversial figure in the political landscape.

In the face of such criticism, Stein has consistently defended her role in challenging the existing political system. In an interview during her involvement in West's presidential campaign, she argued, “People who challenge a corrupt and vindictive system are not new to its efforts to protect itself.” Stein highlighted historical examples, including the abolitionist party before the Civil War, which faced similar accusations of being spoilers.

As Jill Stein gears up for her 2024 presidential bid under the Green Party banner, her candidacy is expected to reignite debates about third-party influence and its impact on the broader political landscape.
