Jahoud Gharib, a 33-year old Moroccan long-distance athlete, won gold medal in the 10th World Athletic Championship in Helsinki on Saturday August 13. Gharib, crossed the finish line after 2 hours 10 min and 11 seconds followed by the Tanzanian Christopher Isegwe, who arrived the finish line after 2 h 10 min 21 sec and ranked second while Japanese Tsuyoshi Ogata (2h 11 min 16 sec) ranked third. King Mohammad VI and the president of Moroccan Athletics Federation have already congratulated Gharib for his success in Helsinki. Expressing his happiness to win the gold medal, Gharib noted that "his performance is the fruit of long-term efforts and continuous training in his birthplace, in Khenifra," adding that he dedicates this gold medal to the King and to the people of Morocco who "always support sportsmen and sports activities."
