In a test aimed at examining the Israeli Hetz (Arrow) anti-ballistic missile's ability to intercept and destroy incoming missiles at high altitudes, the missile system successfully detected and obliterated a target missile early Tuesday, according to Israeli reports.

The test was the sixth in a series examining the operational performance of the Arrow, now deployed by the Israeli air force.

Development of the Israeli-U.S. Arrow system gained impetus during the 1991 Gulf War, when then-Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein fired 39 Scud missiles into Israel. Washington sent Patriot anti-missiles to Israel in an effort to combat the Scuds, but the results of the deployment were disappointing. (Albawaba.com)
