Hizbullah and Israel traded fierce barrages for a sixth day Monday. In the early hours of Monday, witnesses reported that waves of Israeli airstrikes hit the Lebanese city of Tripoli and Hizbullah strongholds in eastern town of Baalbek.
Barrages from gunboats killed four in a village south of Beirut. Eight Lebanese army soldiers died and 12 were injured in an Israeli airstrike in the fishing village of Abdeh in northern Lebanon. The Israeli army early Monday also attacked the port of Beirut with missiles, Lebanese eyewitnesses reported.
The Israeli army said it had targeted radar stations there, because they had been used by Hizbullah to hit a ship on Friday. "The attacks ... are against radar stations used, among other things, in the attack on the Israeli missile boat, by Hezbollah in cooperation with the Lebanese military," the Israeli army spokesman told The Associated Press.
Along the Beirut-Damascus highway at Taanayel in the central section of the Bekaa Valley in the east, an air raid killed two people and wounded 23 at a commercial compound, police said.
