ALBAWABA - An Israeli reserve soldier sustained serious injuries on Saturday following the accidental detonation of a landmine along the Israeli-Lebanese border, the Israeli military confirmed.
According to Army Radio, the incident occurred when a military unit mistakenly entered an Israeli minefield during a routine operation near the border. One soldier was critically wounded by the explosion and was quickly evacuated to a hospital for urgent medical care.
This incident highlights the risks Israeli forces face while operating in border areas, particularly zones heavily mined by their own military in earlier security operations.
In a separate development, the Israeli army reported that an officer was moderately injured after being shot during a military raid in the southern Gaza Strip. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The military claimed that the unit came under fire from Palestinian fighters. In response, Israeli forces reportedly shot and killed two members of the resistance. Later, an airstrike was launched, targeting a third member of the same cell, resulting in his death, according to an official army statement.
The incidents come amid ongoing tensions on both the northern and southern fronts, as Israeli forces continue operations along the borders with Lebanon and within the Gaza Strip.
