The Israeli army announced that it was preparing to set up recruitment bureaus in nine major cities throughout the world, to be ready to call up reservists for military duty in case of war, reported Haaretz newspaper on Sunday.

Offices in Johannesburg, Frankfurt, Bombay, Bangkok, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Los Angeles and New York have been set up "in the event that a real emergency situation arises," an Israeli army spokesman said.

The offices will be opened at Jewish community centers and schools, Haaretz quoted a report by YNET, the internet service of the Yedioth Ahronoth daily.

Officers have already been sent abroad to set up the offices.

It is expected that if the need arises, air time will be purchased on the local media in order to inform the reservists to contact the offices, it said.

In case of emergency, the national airline, El Al, will operate a airlift operation from these cities in order to bring the reservists to Israel, it added - Albawaba.com
