Family members of the Israeli embassy staff left Egypt on board an Israeli airplane Tuesday following a series of attacks on US vital targets, a source at Cairo Airport said.
He told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that 60 Israelis went to the airport without prior bookings and when they arrived there they requested travelling to Israel.
“There was an immediate response to their demands,” he added.
The source, meanwhile, said 39 Americans cancelled their bookings on the Israeli airplane that was heading to Tel Aviv following the deadly attacks at commercial and government buildings in the US, killing and injuring thousands of people.
Egypt tightened security around the US embassy in Cairo and other US organizations nationwide.
Security was also tight around Cairo Airport and all flights to the US were cancelled.
Israel, following the attacks in the US, closed its land borders with Jordan and Egypt, said the agency.
Israeli Radio said the Jewish state closed its land crossings with Egypt and Jordan for 24 hours.
The decision was taken during an urgent meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, his foreign minister, Shimon Peres, defense minister Nenyamin Ben-Eliezer, and security advisors.
The Israeli government also closed its embassies worldwide fearing they might come under attack – Albawaba.com
