The blatantly repeated Israeli operations undermine the fragile peace, urging international intervention to enforce the truce and prevent further civilian casualties.

ALBAWABA- A Lebanese civilian was killed in an Israeli drone strike targeting a vehicle in the Zahrani district, south of Sidon, local authorities and witnesses reported early Wednesday.

The car caught fire instantly, resulting in the civilian’s death, while his identity has not yet been released. Lebanon’s Health Ministry condemned the attack as a blatant violation of the ceasefire with Hezbollah, in place since November 27, 2024.

The strike is the latest in a series of reported breaches by Israel since the truce, including airstrikes, drone incursions, and limited ground operations south of the Litani River.

The ceasefire, brokered by the United States, sought to halt 14 months of cross-border clashes that displaced hundreds of thousands and caused heavy casualties.

In a related development, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam recently declared that the state now “practically controls” areas south of the Litani River for the first time since 1969.

Speaking amid ongoing ceasefire enforcement, Salam emphasized this milestone in restoring Lebanese sovereignty, with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) deploying reinforcements and coordinating with UNIFIL peacekeepers to maintain security.

Southern Lebanon has historically served as a base for Palestinian and Lebanese resistance groups, including Hezbollah, against Israeli occupations, making the region central to Lebanon’s long-term stability.
