ALBAWABA - The Israeli military said Wednesday evening that Israeli civilians crossed the border into the Gaza Strip and were stopped by its soldiers.

The military stated that the civilians were under constant surveillance, adding that forces in the area stopped them, returned them to Israel, and handed them over to the police for further investigation, according to The Times of Israel.

The reason for their attempted entry remains unclear. The military stressed in a statement that entering a combat zone is prohibited, poses a danger to civilians, and impedes troop operations in the area.

It is worth noting that Israeli civilians have attempted to enter Gaza several times since the start of the war in the strip, particularly activists who support the re-establishment of settlements evacuated by Israel in 2005.
