Israel warns Egypt over flights in its air space

Israel has asked Egypt to prevent its planes from entering Israeli air space near the southern port city of Eilat, officials said, warning that if an attack is suspected, an intruding plane might be shot down.

According to The AP, the Israeli officials said the usual flight paths of Egyptian planes heading for Jordan cross near Eilat, but often the planes deviate from the route and enter Israeli air space.

The officials said Egypt has not responded to urgent Israeli messages, and the overflights continue. Egypt's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmed Izzat, said he had no knowledge of the Israeli request.
