ALBAWABA - Israeli forces raided the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem on Monday.
The Israeli army entered the UNRWA compound, conducted searches, and confiscated the mobile phones of security guards, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.
The Jerusalem Governorate said that reinforced Israeli army forces stormed the headquarters in the early morning hours of Monday, detained the security staff and seized their phones, which led to a cutoff of communication with them and made it impossible to know what was happening inside the UNRWA office.
In addition, WAFA mentioned that, at the same time, the area near the UNRWA headquarters was completely closed, and the Israeli forces carried out extensive searches that affected all the facilities of the building.
The Jerusalem Governorate considered the operation a direct challenge to the UN General Assembly resolution that renewed UNRWA's mandate a few days ago, demanding urgent international action to hold 'Israel' accountable for targeting UN and Palestinian institutions.
