U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is ready to mediate a truce between Israel and Hamas, according to Agence France Presse Sunday.
Kerry called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Tel Aviv launched more strikes on Gaza Sunday.
State department officials, as reported by AFP, said that Kerry "highlighted the U.S. concern about escalating tensions on the ground," while also "stress[ing] Israel's right to defend itself."
More than 1,120 people have been wounded from the Israeli strikes on Gaza and 166 have been killed.
However, Netanyahu has vowed to continiue the military campaign "with growing force" and told ministers that Tel Aviv "does not know when this operation will end."Arab Foreign Ministers will meet Sunday to discuss their collective action in response to Israel's continued campaign, and other ministers, such as Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague told reporters this weekend that "there is an urgent need to bring an end to the violence in Gaza."
