ALBAWABA - According to the Israeli daily newspaper Maariv, the Israeli army has begun the second phase of its ground operation in southern Lebanon.
The report revealed that the second phase aims toward "destroying Hezbollah’s second line of defense".
"The Israeli army has initiated the second phase of the ground maneuver in southern Lebanon, with the 36th Division advancing toward Hezbollah’s second defensive line," Maariv reported.
The report added that forces from the 36th Division, which is the largest armored division among the Israeli military formations, were involved in the second phase of the operation in southern Lebanon.
Among the divisions taking part in the new operation are; the Golani Brigade, the Paratroopers Brigade, and the 188th Armored Brigade, with combat engineers working alongside them.
Israel has recently ramped up and expanded its attacks across Lebanon, killing and injuring dozens on a daily basis. On Tuesday alone, Israeli strikes killed 33 people across the country on Tuesday, among them many who the intensified conflict had displaced.
The strikes targeted numerous regions of the country, including the south, the vicinity of the capital Beirut, and the north. The health ministry said an attack on a town in the Chouf area, south of Beirut killed at least 15 people, raising the previous toll from 12.
Israel has drastically increased its bombing campaign in Lebanon since September 23, focusing mostly on Beirut and the country's east and south regions. On September 30, Israeli forces invaded the nation.
