Israel on Wednesday strongly warned world powers against what said was an Iranian offer to cut back on its nuclear program in return for an easing of its Western-imposed sanctions.
"Israel in the last few hours has learned that a proposal will be brought before the P5+1 in Geneva in which Iran will cease all enrichment at 20 percent and slow down work on the heavy water reactor in Arak, and will receive in return the easing of sanctions," an Israeli official told Agence France Presse on condition of anonymity.
"Israel thinks this is a bad deal and will oppose it strongly," the official said, AFP reported.
The so called "P5+1" group of the major world powers are set to meet Iran's nuclear team later on Thursday and on Friday for the latest round of negotiations over Iran's nuclear program. The talks were revived after the June election of moderate new President Hassan Rouhani.
Iran's continued enrichment of uranium to 20 percent has been a particular source of concern for Western states as they see it as a key move made by Iran in its alleged bid to develop nuclear capabilities, according to AFP.
