Israel is anxious and fears it might be pressured into accepting more compromises after the Gaza withdrawal and that the leaders of the industrialized nations might back such a stance, Israel radio reported Sunday, quoting sources in Israel Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's office.
The sources are reported to have added Israel now wants to guarantee its borders are not pushed aside further after the disengagement and would not, therefore, forego military presence in Ghour Jordan and some West Bank areas even in the event of reaching a peace settlement. That is necessary to guarantee Israeli security, Israeli officials are reported to believe.
