The Israeli army on Monday claimed it had not fired artillery shells into southern Lebanon, despite eyewitness accounts, said reports.

Lebanese police and witnesses said Israel fired the shells into southern Lebanon near the occupied Shabaa Farms.

They saw the shells crash into the Saddana hilltop near the Lebanese village of Kfar Shouba, which faces the border zone where Lebanon's Hizbollah resistance movement has clashed with Israeli troops since the Jewish state's pullout from Lebanon last year.

An hour before the shelling, witnesses told AFP that they heard explosions and heavy machinegun fire coming from the nearby Shabaa Farms.

The farms are occupied by Israel but claimed by Lebanon, and are frequently attacked by Hizbollah fighters – Albawaba.com
