The dollar rose for a second day against the yen as reports Israeli warplanes attacked Lebanon prompted investors and traders to buy dollars as a haven, according to report by Blooberg.

The US currency strengthened to 124.57 yen from 124.19 yen Friday, when it finished a fifth winning week in seven. Against the euro, the dollar was little changed at 88.99 cents per euro, said the report.

“Some people bought dollars,'' because investors often hold dollars in times of global strife, said Hirokazu Note, chief trader at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. He expects the dollar to rise to 127 yen by the end of this week.

Israeli warplanes began air attacks near Lebanon's border with Israel and Syria, an area where Syrian troops maintain radar bases and armor. Three Syrian soldiers were killed and six others wounded in the raid – Albawaba.com
