Iraqi vice-president Taha Yasin Ramadan begins Monday an official visit to Cairo for talks on strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries, reported Iran News Agency (IRNA).

Ramadan's visit will be the first for an Iraqi vice-president to Cairo since the two countries broke ties in the aftermath of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1991, said the agency.

The agency quoted the London-based Arab daily al-Sharq al-Awsat as saying that Ramadan will deliver a personal message from Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

The paper, quoting Iraqi sources, said Ramadan's visit might lead to a full restoration of Egyptian-Iraqi ties.

IRNA said that Ramadan will be leading a high-ranking delegation to discuss ways to boost economic and trade relations and cooperation between the two countries.
