Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has ordered further allocation of financial aid to the Palestinian uprising against the Israeli military occupation, a senior Baath Party member said on Friday.

"The president's order affirms Iraq's continuing support for the Intifada," said Abdul-Ghani Abdul-Ghafour in a statement carried by the official Iraqi News Agency (INA), cited by Reuters.

Abdul-Ghafour did not specify the amount involved but said the money would be distributed among the families of Palestinians killed or wounded during the seven months of bloodshed.

In October Saddam donated five million euros (US$4.34 million) to support the uprising.

Iraq has also asked the UN to allocate one million euros to the Palestinians, to be deducted from oil deals under the oil-for-food program sponsored by the international organization. The Arab summit in March supported the move and called on the UN to accelerate its implementation.

Seven million Iraqis have registered as volunteers “to liberate Al Aqsa Mosque.”
