An official Iraqi newspaper termed the United States administration on Saturday as "mentally unbalanced" following US Vice President Dick Cheney's warning that Washington would never allow Baghdad to threaten it with weapons of mass destruction.

"These remarks leave no doubt that this administration, with all its officials, is mentally unbalanced, evil and obsessed by lies and aggressive threats," Al-Qadissiya said.

Vice President Dick Cheney said in a speech Friday that the Iraqi regime hated America and everything the country stood for, and must never be permitted to threaten it with weapons of mass destruction.

Cheney's remarks were "risible", Al-Qadissiya said, accusing him of "distorting the truth and using lies to mask realities that refute the trivialities that he and (US President George W.) Bush are seeking to propagate.

"The biggest and sole threat peoples face comes from the United States and not the other way around," the paper claimed, emphasizing that "Iraq threatens no one."

It further called on Bush and Cheney and "the rest of the mafia that runs the White House to explain how a country under the strictest embargo in history can threaten the world's superpower in terms of force and weaponry." (albawaba.com)
