Iraqi minister of industry, Usama Al-Najafi survived an assassination attempt Sunday in Baghdad while Iraq security forces arrested a former senior army officer and a doctor accused of cooperating with activists.
A ministry of interior source said in a press release that "unidentified militants" opened fire against the convoy of the minister in western Baghdad.
The source added that four of the minister's bodyguards were wounded and damage was caused to the convoy.
In the meantime, an Iraqi police source said that a former top Iraqi army officer who was involved in many armed operations in Baghdad was arrested.
According to the source, the security forces in Kirkuk arrested Major General Aref Al-Obeidi, who is accused of bombing the northern oil fields.
Furthermore, US forces arrested a doctor identified as Mohsen Abu Seif in Baghdad who is accused of cooperating with armed groups and was working with a top activist known as Abu Aqeel. The latter was arrested recently for masterminding "terrorist attacks" in Iraq.
