An Iraqi Kurd engineer was shot dead and his wife seriously injured by unknown gunmen in Arbil, the main city in the Kurdish enclave in the northern part of Iraq, security sources said Sunday.
They identified the man killed Saturday as Aziz Abderrahman, without giving any further data.
A homemade bomb exploded in the city's Koran neighborhood on the same day, causing some damage but no injuries, they added, according to AFP.
Local press have reported a rise in "acts of sabotage and explosions" in the Kurdish enclave since the rival Kurdistan Democratic Party and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan agreed to share power in October under a US-brokered peace deal.
The daily Sibai has charged Baghdad could be behind the violence. (Albawaba.com)
