Iraq’s Foreign Minister Naji Sabri on Tuesday thanked the outgoing commander of the United Nations force that monitors a demilitarized zone between Iraq and Kuwait, the foreign ministry said.

Sabri met with Miguel Angel Moreno of Argentina and hailed the force's efforts exerted to "promote stability along the border between Iraq and Kuwait" and for facilitating the return to Kuwait of national archives seized by Baghdad during its 1990-1991 occupation of the emirate, it said in a statement, carried by AFP.

The United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observers Mission (UNIKOM), consists of around 1,300 men, monitors a demilitarized zone set up along the border following the 1991 Gulf War, which ended the occupation. Its task is to report to the UN Security Council on any violation committed by either side. (Albawaba.com)
