Iraqi armed forces assisted by Shiite fighters held off a Daesh attack on a Euphrates River dam north of Baghdad early Sunday morning, Reuters reported.

Iraqi security forces said six soldiers and around nine Shiite militia fighters were killed in the clash, which lasted seven hours.

Udhaim Council Chief Mohammed Dhefan told Reuters that Daesh fighters attacked the dam from the northwest using suicide car bombers to target Iraqi army positions.
