Iraqi Minister for Foreign Affairs Naji Sabri Al Hadithin on Wednesday reiterated Iraq’s pride in the Arab nation’s opposition, spearheaded by Egypt, to the so-called “smart sanctions” pushed by the US and the UK, according to the Cairo-based Al Akhbar daily, citing the Middle East News Agency.
“This is a daring attitude,” the Iraqi official told the agency’s correspondent in Baghdad, while also praising the Syrians, Jordanians and the Arab League for their stance.
He said that his country would prioritize implementing the “tenth stage projects” of the memorandum of understanding Iraq has signed with states who sided with Iraq in “rejecting this colonial project.”
“My country has ongoing negotiations and contacts with Egypt, Syria, Jordan and other Arab countries to secure the maximum degree of coordination and cooperation in all aspects,” added the official.
Responding to a question regarding the Iraqi delegation to Cairo as part of efforts to confront the “smart sanctions,” Hadithin said, “the exchange of delegations took place in a usual manner, because what unites the two brotherly countries is much more than their differences.”
“This fact has been affirmed over the past few years through coordination, consultations and exchange of visits, at the official and unofficial levels,” he added.
“The United States and Britain [will] try to present their project again, but the international and Arab stance are enough to undermine the project’s chances for success,” the Iraqi official said – Albawaba.com
