Two Iranians were caught trying to enter South Korea on fake Spanish passports and slashed their wrists in frustration before they were deported, immigration authorities said Thursday.
The Iranians, who arrived Wednesday from Bangkok, cut their wrists with pieces of metal while waiting to be put on a flight to return them to Bangkok, an immigration official at Incheon International Airport said.
"The cuts were not deep and they received treatment in a nearby hospital and they were forced to return to Bangkok by the same flight that they rode to come here," the official told AFP.
"They were apparently illegal immigrants seeking to get jobs here," he added.
They cut themselves "apparently because of frustration," he said.
Authorities have said they feared illegal immigrants might try to take advantage of the World Cup underway in South Korea and Japan and attempt to enter the country passing themselves off as regular football fans.
Since the World Cup began on May 31, about 300 foreigners, including from China, Nigeria and Bangladesh, have been caught trying to enter the country illegally, authorities have said. (albawaba.com)
