A fire broke out in Tehran's Qasr Prison on Wednesday morning, killing an inmate and leaving four others wounded.
The fire began at 1:00 a.m. (local time) in a ward where convicted murderers are held. It lasted till around 2:30 a.m (local time). The fire destroyed 13 cells in the ward, where an estimated 1,000 inmates are reportedly held, IRNA reported.
According to the agency, experts believe that the fire was part of an escape plan to be implemented through a construction project in the prison’s neighborhood.
Official sources are yet to comment on the cause of the incident, IRNA concluded. (Albawaba.com)
