Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said on Tuesday that the nation should elect a president consistent with its honor. "Let's display a turnout more magnificent than the first round in the run-off election to the dismay of those who do not want to see our freedom, victory and glory. Even those who hesitated to take part in the first round of the election, are expected to abide by their national and historical commitment," President Khatami said, according to IRNA.

"The government will not allow any force to put vote of the nation at stake and jeopardize the republican aspect of the Islamic Republic which was founded by late Imam Khomeini."

President Khatami termed the run-off election day, June 24, as a 'historical day' for the nation to go to the polls.  "We must hand over our destiny to a person who will safeguard our freedom and respect our 27-year national struggle to make headway to a bright and hopeful future."
