Foreign ministers of Iran and Egypt discussed Monday in a telephone conversation the latest regional and international developments in the aftermath of the recent attacks in the United States, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi expressed his sympathy with the
people of the US but said Iran, as a neighbor of Afganistan, is worried about any US probable military action against that country.
Kharrazi said any reaction towards terrorist actions should be supervised by the United Nations, noting that “one-sided and hasty reactions would not be fruitful,” the agency quoted him as saying.
Elsewhere, Kharrazi described the current situation in Palestine as dangerous and said the “Zionist regime is trying to link the events in the United States and the developments in Middle East.”
"Israel is intensifying its terrorist actions against the
Palestinians and trying to show that such actions are legitimate struggle against terrorism," said Kharrazi.
He said Muslim countries should make a collective effort to thwart this conspiracy.
“It is necessary that any confrontation between the Muslim world and the West be avoided,” added Kharrazi.
Foe his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher outlined his country's position on the issue and said Egypt has tried to convince the American officials to avoid any hasty action.
"Any action should be carried out after investigation and in the framework of international norms," said Maher.
The Egyptian official pointed to the efforts by Israel to take advantage of the current crisis and said Egypt has warned the European and American officials that the Israelis have entered a dangerous game and they should exert pressure on Tel Aviv to stop its attacks against the Palestinians.
The two foreign ministers stressed the need for the continuation of consultations between the two countries and the Muslim countries as well, in order to activate the United Nations and prevention of any action which could lead to instability and insecurity in the region, said IRNA – Albawaba.com
