The conservative-dominated Iranian press court has suspended the fundamentalist Jebheh (Front) paper, Iranian state radio announced Saturday.
Jebheh, which has been particularly virulent in its attacks against the reformist current of reformist President Mohammad Khatami, is the first conservative paper to be suspended.
No reason was given for the decision, taken by the court which rules on offences committed by the press.
The decision brings to 16 the number of publications suspended in the course of a week, including 11 dailies close to Khatami.
The action against the reformist press has sparked a wave of protests in university circles in Tehran and the provinces – TEHRAN (AFP).
