Dariush Zahedi, a lecturer at the California University, has been released on bail, it was reported in Tehran Monday.

A spokesman for the Tehran Prosecutor's Office said that

Zahedi had been freed after posting a bail of two billion rials (some USD 250,000), IRNA reported. "Zahedi must appear at the court on a date that the judge handling

his case has set or he will lose the bail," an Iranian official said.

Zahedi was born in Iran and emigrated to the U.S. as a teenager. He is an expert on Iranian politics and is director of the West Coast operations of the American Iranian Council.

According to his colleagues, he was arrested in June on suspicion of spying and was being held in Tehran's Evin prison. (Albawaba.com)
