ALBAWABA - The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps seized two ships in the Gulf carrying more than one million liters of smuggled fuel, Iranian media confirmed on Thursday.
The Iranian army also referred to ships' crews, consisting of 15 foreigners, to the judiciary. Until this moment, the flags the tankers were carrying or the nationalities of the crew, are still not clear.
Tasnim reported Thursday, "More than one million litres of smuggled fuel were found on board of the two vessels." The ships carrying smuggled fuel were caught by the Guards near Iran's Farsi island in the Gulf.
Nonetheless, the Iranian website allegedly accused the vessels caught near the country of being "engaged in smuggling operations for several months and were identified and intercepted following surveillance, interception and intelligence operations" by naval forces.
This comes amid increasing tension in the region between Tehran and Washington and a possible U.S. strike on Tehran.
On the other hand, the U.S. and Iran have agreed earlier to hold talks in Oman on Friday, officials for both sides revealed.
