One day ahead of the "5+1" gathering in London, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi, said on Sunday that diplomacy is the only answer to the current situation. Representatives of the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China along with that of Germany are to gather in the British capital on Monday to discuss holding of an emergency meeting by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to review the case of Iran's nuclear program.
According to Irna, Asefi said "Iran has not violated any laws and regulations and has been acting based on the regulations of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), its safeguards and the IAEA's regulations," stressing, "Therefore, there is no reason for exerting pressure on Iran." He added "Using the language of negotiation and respect instead of threat and intimidation, will definitely lead to more effective results, since Iran is by no means familiar with the language of threat and intimidation."
Stating that the issue of "Iran's rights is not for bargain," Asefi noted "Iran has the right to access nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and it is not to abandon its right in this regard. It is quite clear that something is being distorted by certain countries and that is the issue of nuclear 'research' which is being mistaken for 'producing' nuclear fuel," Asefi complained.
