A consortium of Iranian, Kuwaiti and a foreign companies has submitted a proposal to transfer water from Iran to Kuwait, Iran's official news agency (IRNA) reported Saturday.

Iran's Minister of Energy Habibollah Bitaraf was quoted by the agency as saying that "the decision to go ahead with the project will be based on the national interest and within the framework of good neighborly relations," noting that there has not been a tender offered in this regard.

The Energy Ministry's view is that the amount of excess water left after meeting the domestic needs, should be exported.

IRNA is also stated that the ministry is reviewing the consortium's proposal and will announce its decision when legal procedures have been completed -- Albawaba.com
