Iran’s military released a video showing a simulated attack on Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, following the death of a senior Iranian commander in Syria.
The video, titled “The Nightmare of Vultures”, depicts a group of masked gunmen storming Netanyahu’s office and shooting him in the head. The video also shows images of Iranian-backed militias in Syria and Iraq, as well as the coffins of Israeli soldiers killed in previous conflicts.
The video was aired on Iran’s state television and posted on social media platforms, sparking outrage and condemnation from Israel and its allies. The video was seen as a direct threat and a retaliation for the killing of Sayyed Razi Mousavi, a top adviser for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Syria, who died in an airstrike near Damascus on Monday.
Iran blamed Israel for the strike, which also killed several other Iranian and Syrian military personnel. Israel has not confirmed or denied its involvement, but has repeatedly said that it will not tolerate Iran’s presence and influence in Syria, which it considers a threat to its security and regional stability.
The video came amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, which have been engaged in a shadow war for years, involving covert operations, cyberattacks, and cross-border strikes. The two countries have also been at odds over Iran’s nuclear program.
The video also coincided with the anniversary of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, who was killed by a US drone strike in Iraq on January 3, 2020. Soleimani was widely regarded as Iran’s most powerful and influential military leader, and his death sparked a wave of anger and revenge across the region.
Iran has vowed to avenge the deaths of its commanders and continue to support its allies in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, and elsewhere.
