Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza

Asefi said in Tehran Wednesday that Iran has freed UAE sailors that had been arrested for illegally entering Iranian territorial waters.

Asefi said the measure had been taken following a similar move by the UAE to release Iranian sailors held on the same charges, and after preliminary interrogations proved that the Emirati captain and sailors had entered Iran`s territorial waters by mistake, IRNA news agency reported.

"Our relevant officials have taken Iran`s good relations with the UAE into consideration and have released all the Emirati sailors and their boats," he said.

Just last week, Tehran released eight British sailors after they had been arrested for entering Iranian territorial waters in the Persian Gulf bordering with Iraq on board three British naval vessels. (Albawaba.com)
