ALBAWABA - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced in a new statement on Tuesday that Tehran is capable of preparing the ground for "fair and equitable negotiations" with the United States.
Pezeshkian posted on X that after a request by a friendly country, he directed the country's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, to have an appropriate atmosphere free from threats and far from unreasonable expectations in order to start the talks between Tehran and Washington. This comes amid U.S. President Donald Trump's continued threats to strike Iran.
Iran's President said, "In response to the request of friendly governments in the region to reply to the proposal of the President of the United States for negotiations, I have instructed the Foreign Minister that, should an appropriate atmosphere free from threats and far from unreasonable expectations exist."
He maintained, "He [Foreign Minister] should prepare the ground for fair and equitable negotiations based on the principle of dignity, wisdom, and expediency within the framework of national interests."
Trump said on Monday he is optimistic that Washington will "work something out" with Iran, but threatened that "bad things would happen" if no deal is reached.
It is worth noting that tension between the two countries began following the start of the new wave of protests in Iran, as Trump warned Iran not to target protesters, or it would interfere and attack Tehran, in addition to fears that Iran is back to developing its nuclear system.
