Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday that the 1979 Islamic Revolution helped Iran get rid of being a regional base for the US. In a meeting with several thousand members of Basij (volunteer forces) in Hamedan, he noted that the Iranian nation ignores the US and Zionist propaganda campaign against it and advised the youth to fight drug addiction and ethical wrongdoing, IRNA reported.
"There is no doubt that hands and brains of the enemies are behind the conspiracy of drug addiction and ethical lawlessness."
On Iraq, Khamenei commented that Iran does not have any reason to adopt negative approach toward the new Iraqi government though it is not a democratically elected one, but, it can pave the way for establishment of a legitimate government.
"The Iraqi government should opt for distancing itself from Washington, holding democratic election on schedule and putting an end to occupation. An extra hour of stay of the occupation forces is disgusting for the Iraqi people in light of their routine practices, an example of which being Abu Ghraib prison scandal."
On the trial of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, he said that Saddam's indictment should include his crime of imposing eight years of war on Iran. "The US has always been an accomplice to Saddam in the crimes he perpetrated against both the Iranian and Iraqi people. He always received a green lights from Washington in perpetrating crimes against humanity." (albawaba.com)
