Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi rejected recent remarks by US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld against Iran, saying such remarks are aimed at spreading lies to justify US defeat in the campaign against terrorism.
US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld told a press conference on Tuesday that Iran could have played a role in the suicide attack at a shopping mall in Israel which reportedly killed at least four and injured dozens of others. He claimed Iran had sent forces and provided equipment to Beirut through Syria.
"We know that Iran has been on the terrorist list. We know that Iran has been assisting Hizbullah and other organizations and moving equipment and people down through Damascus into Beirut and down into positions where they can attack Israel for years and years and years and years," Rumsfeld said.
According to Press and News Department of Iran's Foreign Ministry, cited by IRNA, Asefi said repetition of US miscalculated and unwise measures in the fight against terrorism along with Washington's insistence in repeating its past mistakes only increase insecurity in the world.
"US officials see the world behind Israeli glasses and they would not be able to analyze international developments realistically. The center of terror and terrorism should be sought within the Zionist regime and its brutal measures," Asefi stated.
