Iran has presented 1,000 books on Persian culture to the Egyptian library in Alexandria, reported the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.
The books were presented to the library last week by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Sadiq Kharrazi, who is currently visiting Egypt, it said.
The Iranian delegation was received by a professor of Islamic philosophy, Yousuf Zaidan, who heads the manuscripts department of the Alexandria Library.
Kharrazi led a delegation of politicians, scholars and intellectuals from his country to take part in a symposium on relations between Iran and Egypt held in Cairo last weekend.
Alexandria's library was the pride of the world in ancient times, but its contents were destroyed for reasons still the subject of controversy. The latest library is an attempt to revive the Mediterranean city's role as a cultural beacon – Albawaba.com
