An Iranian diplomat kidnapped in Iraq last week is "alive and well," Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi told journalists Monday. According to IRNA, his remarks were delivered at a joint press conference with the visiting Pakistani foreign minister during which he also said that Iran will make utmost effort to have Fereydoun Jahani released.
The Pakistani foreign minister, who condemned the kidnapping, said that two Pakistani nationals who had been taken hostage in Iraq had been killed. "The kidnappings were made in the name of Islam which runs counter to the teachings of Islam which emphasizes peace and tranquility," Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri said.
