Iran's former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has denounced what he said was an "insolent" Israeli raid on Syrian soil, IRNA news agency reported.

"This is insolence on the part of the Zionist regime, which stamps on international law and order by launching an air raid on a great country, Syria," the agency quoted Rafsanjani as saying late Sunday.

"This is regrettable for the international community and the Muslim world," Rafsanjani added.

Meanwhile, also Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi condemned the Israeli strike on a suspected "training base" in Syria, saying it "posed a threat" to the entire Middle East region.

"By resorting to such aggressions, the Zionist regime posed a threat to the security of the Middle East region. The security of the Middle East and the entire world is being put at risk," Kharazi said, quoted by IRNA news agency.

The "Israeli attack against Syria is an attempt to divert public opinion from the sufferings of the Palestinian people, arising from the occupation of their country," he said.

Furthermore, he warned that "the international community's inaction in condemning the Zionist regime's aggression on Syria will embolden ... Israel in its aggressive ambitions." (Albawaba.com)
